Update on 2026 Offshore Beach Renourishment Project

October 29, 2026 – Beach Renourishment Update

Reach 2: Weather Delays Continue
Marinex anticipates at least another week of weather delays associated with nor’easter conditions. About 1,000 feet of beach between 57th Avenue and Grand Pavilion remains to be renourished for Reach 2.

Marinex continues to monitor conditions for any opportunity to resume work, even for a half-day of pumping. In the meantime, the contractor is keeping its staged equipment within a small area of the beach to minimize disruption to beachgoers.

Dune Planting and Fencing
Earth Balance will finish planting newly renourished dunes throughout Reach 1 and Reach 2 before the end of November. Reach 3 will be planted during the spring season of 2027.

Reach 3: Revised Pumping Sequence
Weather delays in Reach 2 have also prompted a change to the planned pumping sequence for Reach 3. To meet an approaching dredging deadline required by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Marinex now plans to begin renourishing Reach 3 from the southern tip of the island near Breach Inlet and work their way north instead of their original starting position at 6th Avenue.

“Keep Off the Dunes” Signs
The City is ordering custom “Keep Off the Dunes” signs using a design from the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services. The signs will provide a consistent message across the beach and remind beachgoers that walking on dunes can damage vegetation and contribute to erosion.
