July 9, 2026 – You may have already noticed construction equipment staged on the beach near Mariner's Walk. This marks the beginning of the 2026 Beach Renourishment Project.
The contractor barged the heavy equipment in via Dewees Inlet, minimizing the impact on traffic and the City's road network.
Onshore and offshore benthic samples required as part of the permit special conditions was conducted today. Beach surveys show that 100k cubic yards of sand have accreted on reach 3.
What to expect:
- Crews will have a daily presence on the beach.
- No significant beach closures are anticipated.
- Small work zones immediately surrounding active machinery will be temporarily fenced off. In most cases, pedestrians will be able to safely walk around these areas.
What's next?
The dredge is expected to arrive in about one week, with sand pumping currently scheduled to begin July 17.
